May Crowning Attire

Practices are going very well for our May Crowning Mass and Ceremony on May 8th. We hope to see you all there! A few questions came up regarding our Mass attire, as the students are encouraged to wear their "Free Dress Sunday Best."

For the Ladies:
  • A nice dress or skirt would be very appropriate. This is another good occasion to utilize their Easter dresses if they have one.
  • Shoulders must be covered. If a dress is spaghetti strapped or strapless, a sweater must be worn over it.
  • Heels or open-toed shoes are okay to wear for the Mass, but must be changed into school shoes after the Mass. Make sure your child is comfortable enough to walk in them as they will move around a bit during the mass and service. No sandals.
  • Flats and closed toe dress shoes are a wonderful option.
For the Gentlemen:
  • Slacks are appropriate for this day. No jeans or shorts. If your child does not have slacks, our uniform pants are a wonderful option,
  • Dress shirts and polos are great to wear. If your child would like to wear a tie or sportscoat, that is perfectly fine.
  • Dress shoes are appropriate for this occasion.
All in all, if you feel it is appropriate enough to wear to the Easter Sunday Service, it is appropriate for May Crowning. If your child would like to stay in their Sunday Best Attire throughout the day, they may. They may also change back into their Mass Uniform if they are uncomfortable being in their Sunday Best all day.

We can't wait to see everyone! Thanks for working so hard with your children at home! It will be a beautiful service.

Multiplication Patterns (Tricks)

All of third grade is doing stellar job on their multiplication table memorization! I've had a few students ask about some tricks for memorizing some of the facts. Hope this helps and see you tomorrow!

is just doubling the number. The same as adding the number to itself.
2×2=4, 2×3=6, 2×4=8, etc.
So the pattern is 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20
(And once you remember those, you also know 3×2, 4×2, 5×2, etc., right?)

has a pattern: 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. It ends in either 0 or 5.

has a pattern, too: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90
Now, notice how the "ones" place goes down: 9,8,7,6, ...? And at the same time, the "tens" place goes up: 1,2,3,...? Well, your hands can help!
Example: to multiply 9 by 8: hold your 8th finger down, and you can count "7" and "2" ... the answer is 72

10× is maybe the easiest of them all ... just put a zero after it.
10×2=20, 10×3=30, 10×4=40, etc.

11× is mostly easy: from 11×2 to 11×9 you just put the two digits together. 11×2=22, 11×3=33, ..., 11×9=99.

Prayers, Popsicles, and Resurrecting the Alleluia!

Each year, St. Ann's Catholic School has a tradition of a Prayers and Popsicles service in celebration of Easter. This year the Middle School House of St. Michael added a joyful twist. We "buried" our Alleluia on Ash Wednesday to signify it absence during Lent. So on Monday, we got to "resurrect" this celebratory word in honor of our joyful Easter season. After the service, PTO provided the whole school with popsicles! Thanks PTO and the House of St. Michael!
