Schedule Change and other information...

Hello Awesome 3A Families!

I just wanted to communicate with you a few things that may be helpful as our year progresses.

First, we have a minor schedule change. Our Library time has moved from Tuesday to Thursday at 1:00 - 1:30. My conference periods will be different on Tuesdays and Thursdays because of this adjustment.

Secondly, I wanted to communicate with you my policies on corrections. Students may correct tests for half of the credit missed on the original grade, with the exception of open book tests. Please check the Tuesday folders for any tests that need to be corrected and return by Friday for credit. The students may correct when they find the right answer and page number. They need to write the answer and page on a separate sheet of paper in order to get credit. In the event that a math paper needs to be corrected, the students need to show the correct work in getting to the solution and the corrected answer. No page number is necessary in math. Homework is not allowed to be corrected in most cases because students are allowed some class time to work on it and are supposed to have all assignments checked nightly. Only in the event that you see the words "Please correct" on your child's paper may it be corrected. I write this when I see that a student may have not understood the concept or minor mistakes were made.

Finally, I will be sure to update this site frequently to keep you informed on any classroom happenings. Another good way to know what it coming up in our curriculum is by looking at the Pipeline each month which will be posted at www.stanns.us.

I hope this information helps you as we continue in 3A, but of course if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at school, through the planner, or though e-mail at tracy61187@yahoo.com. I hope you all have a wonderful night, and I can not wait to start another great Wednesday tomorrow!

1st Week Down!

Hello Fabulous 3A Families!

What an amazing first week we've had! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this class! I couldn't have been blessed with a more sweet, smart, and creative bunch of students! I just wanted to say thank you to all the parents that turned in their classroom and homework contracts, and surveys. Your comments and feedback truly help with meeting the needs of your child.

Your children have adapted so well to the classroom procedures and already seem comfortable in class! Now our routine begins! A few things to keep in mind as we delve into the curriculum:
  • Check and sign the planner nightly. This allows you to see what your child did in school that day, and their homework assignments will be highlighted.
  • Most Thursdays, your child will have a spelling test. If they do not make a 100, I will have them retake the test on Friday. The higher of the two grades will go in the grade book.
  • We have textbooks in math that are not required to go home, but if you notice that your child is needing extra help please feel free to have your students take them home and you can practice, or you can get a head start on upcoming lessons.
Keep checking here for more tips or extra resources that make help make this year a successful one for your child! I'm looking forward to another great week. If you need anything, please feel free to contact me at school, through the planner, or through my email: tracy61187@yahoo.com. Have a wonderful night! Can't wait to see the sweet third graders tomorrow!

Welcome to 3A!

Welcome to 3A's website! I hope this page will help communication between home and school! Be sure to check here frequently for any news, events, pictures, and resources for our classroom.

I am so happy to be getting to know each and every one of your children. We've had a great first two days. While we are still taking time to grasp new routines, we have managed to do a few "get-to-know-you" activities, start our first novel in class ("The Witches" by Roald Dahl), and start learning about the Saints recognized in our Catholic Church.

A few reminders for you and your children:
  • Please remember to sign the planner nightly. This allows you to see what we accomplished in school that day and see if your children have any homework. It also promotes responsibility for your child.
  • Tuesday folders go home weekly. Please be sure to review them with your child and return them signed, along with any graded work and forms.
  • Your children's first homework assignments are to make sure the class contract, homework contract, and parent survey are returned by Friday. Each of these forms are a great help to me in creating a curriculum that meets your child's needs. Thank you for your help with this, and please feel free to include any information that you feel will help me teach your child.

I can't wait to see what your children accomplish this year in 3rd grade. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school, my email, or through notes in the planner!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Owen
